My kind of book is a greatly detailed and insightful view from people who have good stories to tell. I often read autobiographies which Celebrities have wrote. Some are interesting & some are rather boring with lots of babbling...
It's not everyday I sit down to read a full book. I'm no book worm and can't read a whole book in a matter of hours, although I have come across some very interesting books, known as true life which has took me a fair old week to completely finish. One of the most heart-felt books I have read so far is - Calum Best: My Dad & Me.
I bought this book as soon as it hit the shelves which was sometime early last year. It often takes me a while to get stuck into a book however, this book took me by surprise and given me a real sense of emotion... Very heartbreaking but beautiful.
The late, legendary footballer George Best's son Calum wrote this to tell the true story of his father's alcoholism and the bond they shared.
In this book, Calum explains the truth behind the bond he shared with his father & how George's relationship with alcohol & having wild lifestyle affected his son.
Calum grew up with his mother, Angie in sunny California. His visits to the UK to see his father were very rare which the times he did visit, he cherished the memories they shared together. It wasn't long until George's issues with alcohol hugely jeopardised his time with Calum.
Throughout the story you hear about the memories they shared and how his addiction took over his own life and his relationship with his son.
Since writing the book, Calum has been raising awareness of how alcohol can affect the lives of families & has become a patron of an association for children of alcoholics, named NACOA, last year. You can find the link below 👇
I hugely recommend you go and pick up this book wherever you are. It gives a very insightful insight of how Alcoholism can really affect the lives of people and their loved ones. It's a story you'll never forget and will give you a strong imagination of what it's really like.
