I've never denied the fact that I struggle mostly with keeping calm. Especially in social situations or even at home in my own environment.
We all get stressed out every so often so it's important to have strategies when you're having a bad day to help overcome anxieties.
I'm always looking for new ways to help keep myself calm, especially now as I'm doing some work with the Youth Offenders due to my previous meltdown which was the most serious out of all.
I've only started doing work with Youth Offenders for a week now which I've been ordered to do by the court to stop myself from re-offending again.
I've realised now is the time to do something about it and help myself before it's too late and I end up being in prison. It sounds dramatic but this is what I've been told so many times which is massively true.
The work I'm doing is very similar to anger-management. I've always known that my anger is the most biggest issue in my life. I'm doing the best I can to turn that around. I know that it won't happen overnight so I'm working on that daily the best that I can to help manage my behaviour and take control.
MY TOP 10 TIPS TO KEEPING CALM
Reading A Book
Reading has always been something I've enjoyed.
Reading gives me a distraction from life, Not only does it help me keep calm, It also gives me the time to enjoy a moment on my own. It occupies my mind and makes me feel happy. I feel I've accomplished something and learnt something new. Whether that's a particular word I've come across that's new or just generally being deep in thought within the story.
My favourite genre is non-fiction because I find it interesting to know that's it's real life and not imaginary made up.
I've never really been a fan of fiction. Stories that aren't true and are too detailed. I haven't got a good imagination. It's mostly to do with my autism. I can't picture something that isn't real life.
Listening To Music
This is my major favourite, there's nothing more enjoyable than listening to your favourite music.
Music keeps my spirits up and gives me that short moment to enjoy life the most.
Everyday I'm in my room listening to music whilst doing something. I'm actually in fact enjoying some music now whilst writing this blog post.
I'm loving Justin Bieber at the moment. I'm not afraid to admit I'm turning into a true Belieber! I recently bought his latest album and I'm thoroughly enjoying it, so much that I know every word to the songs... Is that concerning?
Relaxing In The Bath
Feeling cosy and warm, having a bath is something you can't deny enjoying.
Getting out your luxury and most favourite cosmetics to pamper yourself with is the best. Not to mention the candles too!
Pampering yourself is what everyone needs every now and then after a stressful or busy day.
It makes me feel fresh and gives me this stress-free feeling. It gives you the time to reflect on the day you've had whether it's a good or bad day. Even listening to music whilst having a long soak is even more enjoyable.
Write About Things That Make You Happy
As writing is something I'm passionate about and love to do, writing what makes you feel good helps you think positive.
It helps with releasing the pressure from your mind onto paper. Write about a happy memory you've had or an interest you're passionate about. It can be absolutely anything! You could write a daily diary, this will help occupy yourself so you avoid becoming stressed.
This helps me to focus on something which pushes my bad thoughts out of the picture.
Watch A Film
Watch your most favourite film of all-time.
A comedy is guaranteed to make you laugh. My favourite comedy is White Chicks. It never fails to make me laugh. It's great how you can watch your favourite film as many times as you want and you still won't get bored. I'm also a huge fan of Horror, even though I'm always petrified! It's the adrenaline you enjoy, It's guaranteed to help take your mind off things.
Meet A Friend
Even though socialising is not my strongest skill, I always enjoy meeting a friend. It's very rare I do this due to not having many friends although I do have a female friend who I regularly talk to. We're not always in contact but we still class each other as good friends.
Seeking advice from a friend or generally confiding in one is a good thing to do.
I'm going to the Cinema on Monday with my friend who I haven't seen in a while. I can't wait! I'll be sure to update you all on that!
Although shopping is what everyone needs to indulge in every now and then, I find that just going to browse around your local near-by shops is fun even if you have no money. Go for a walk into town and look for inspiration on what you would like to buy next time. Getting fresh-air will freshen your mind if you're ever feeling stressed.
Play A Game
Whether it's on your phone playing Angry Birds or playing a board game. It can be good to play a game whilst spending time with family or friends.
My all-time favourite game is Monopoly. I'm sure everyone's heard of it considering it's a game for everyone can enjoy and it's a classic.
I also like playing UNO cards. I would explain it but it's very complicated!
I don't play games much although when I do I enjoy it. I need to do it more often.
In the past I've been to the gym or did work out dvds at home. I enjoyed it because I was doing it to help lose weight. It's something I hated the thought of at first but when I tried it, I loved it. I'm no fitness fanatic though. I started seeing benefits from it such as getting healthier. I soon stopped as I lose interest in things however, It's my goal to do it again. I've always wanted to lose weight.
I like it to because once you've been to the gym, you feel you've accomplished something. You feel proud of yourself.
I'm determined to get back to it as it certainly helped me, mentally and physically.
I aim to do more of this to break up my spare-time. I enjoy it although I'm not very skilful when it comes to cooking.
I recently made rocky road which I was hoping to share on my blog with you all which it didn't turn out how I expected it to. It was pretty awful!
I'm determined to work on my skills and improve because I really enjoy it a lot. It's productive!
So there you have it... These are my strategies to help keep calm. I don't use all of them regularly however, I would like to try and add them to my routine.
I hope I've inspired you to try these to help you feel calm!
